Veratus Games
Anagrail is a daily word run: one rack of letters, one target to beat, and a rule most word games get backwards — rare words score far more than long ones. Need a hand? We're happy to help.
You get a rack of letter tiles and a target score. Build a word from the tiles, play it, and read what it means. Clear the target and the next stage hands you a higher one, a smaller rack and fewer plays. The run ends the first time you miss a target. Modes: Daily (the same rack as everyone else, once a day), Casual (a fresh rack whenever you want one), Burn (a survival run where the clock shrinks each stage) and Ration (a survival run where your plays shrink each stage).
Why did my short word score more than a long one?
That is the game. Anagrail scores rarity, not length — an uncommon four-letter word will out-score an obvious eight-letter one. Every score is broken down on screen so you can see exactly how it was built. Hunting long words is the losing strategy here.
What is the difference between the Standard clock and the Unhurried clock?
They are two ways to play, each scored on its own terms. You choose between them on the first screen, before every run.
A word I know was not accepted.
Anagrail plays from a fixed dictionary of 50,542 words, and every playable word carries a definition — which means a valid English word with no usable definition will not be in it. If you think something is genuinely missing, email us the word and we will look at it.
A word was accepted that I do not think is real.
Email it to us. The dictionary is reviewed, and reports are read.
What are Found and Learned?
Every word you play is kept in your collection as Found. Meet the same word again on a later day and it becomes Learned. That is the whole of it — no flashcards, no streak to defend, and the game never quizzes you.
Did I lose my progress?
Your collection, run history and settings are saved locally on your device only. Deleting the app removes them, and progress does not transfer between devices, because nothing is stored anywhere outside your phone.
Accessibility
Anagrail is set throughout in Atkinson Hyperlegible, the typeface the Braille Institute designed for readers with low vision. It supports VoiceOver on every screen — including the letter and the value of each tile — Dynamic Type, and Reduced Motion. Colour is never the only thing carrying meaning. If you hit an accessibility problem, email us: it will be treated as a bug, not a feature request.
Are there ads or tracking?
No ads, ever. No subscription, no account, and no analytics — Anagrail collects no personal data and is fully playable offline. See our Privacy Policy.
What can I buy, and what can I not?
Anagrail sells optional items you can use during a casual run — spare tiles, lantern oil, star tiles and SpellRacks. Everything the game is stays free: every word, every definition, the daily run, the collection, and every accessibility setting.
Three things are deliberately never for sale. Word definitions — every word you play shows you what it means, free, always. The two hints in each stage, which cost seconds off your clock and never money. And the Unhurried clock, along with every other accessibility setting.
Nothing you buy can be used in a ranked run. The daily run and the survival boards are you and the rack — a bought item cannot enter them, so a score on a leaderboard was never paid for.
I bought something and it is not there
Open Store from the menu and tap Restore purchases. That asks the App Store for anything permanent you have bought on this Apple Account, on this device or another one, and puts it back.
Consumable items — tiles, oils, star tiles and SpellRacks — work differently, and Apple does not redeliver them. They are added to your sack on the device that bought them, and they stay there until you spend them. They do not transfer between devices, for the same reason your collection does not: nothing is stored outside your phone.
If a purchase was charged and never arrived, email us with the date and we will sort it out.
